The Kukkies Story
I’ve always loved cooking, but baking wasn’t really a thing where I grew up. I’m from a small village where we didn’t have access to a lot of ingredients or even proper recipes, so baking felt kind of out of reach.
That changed in college. My best friend Nambo used to bring back homemade cakes whenever she went home—especially her chocolate cake, which we were all obsessed with. Ten of us in the hostel would wait for her to come back just to share a slice. It was a big deal! We even used to joke, “One day I’ll open a restaurant, but Nambo has to handle the baking.”
Later, when I moved to Ireland, I started missing home a lot—my people, the food, all of it. I got the chocolate cake recipe from Nambo and gave it a try. It wasn’t exactly like hers, but it brought back all those warm memories. That’s when I slowly started getting into baking.
After meeting my partner, I began trying more recipes—mostly cakes and brownies for friends. I also started baking birthday cakes as a way to show love, just like I would for family. At first, it was all trial and error, but eventually, I figured it out.
And that’s how Kukkies started.
I’ve always been really conscious about what goes into food, so everything I make is free from vegetable oils and preservatives. Just real, simple ingredients—nothing fake. I bake things the same way I would for the people I love, and that’s exactly what I want to share through Kukkies. The real, homemade taste.
Even now, the smell of something baking in the kitchen just makes me happy. It’s still my favourite part of the whole thing.
